Finally!

Today in 2C our second graders broke new ground - First class of second graders in our district (and beyond?) to use iPads on a 2:1 scale.  This morning we learned how to get to our web based Xtra Math home page, log in using a pin number, and take placement tests for math facts.  It was very exciting and so much fun to be a part of this historic day in our very own classroom.  We are definitely ending 2012 on a high note, and we cannot wait for 2013.  Thanks to Dr. Jan Wright, Tony Inglese,  Angie Southerland, Cathie Ciway,  and the fifth grade AGS iPad pilot teachers - Larke Curnock, Christy Vanderloon, and Nicky Woodruff.  Also, thanks to the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence for their continued support. I am so proud of the students of 2C!

Tuesday Update

I'm sorry that we did not pick up our mail today, and the weekly homework chart did not make its way home. It will be sent home tomorrow.

In the meantime, there is no Homelink tonight for homework. Please see Homelink 2.14, the family letter, for an overview of what will be covered in Unit 3. Because of the short week, the spelling test will not be given until next Friday, October 19th, so there is no spelling homework this week.

Thanks for your flexibility and patience!

Cronin Chronicle #2

Cronin Chronicle  for the week of October 1st - 5th.
view.jpgReading-  Our story this week for our Journeys series was Diary of a Spider - by Doreen Cronin!  The students wanted to know when she could come in and read to our class...I had to tell them that unfortunately, we are not related.   We really did enjoy reading the story together as a class - it is a very funny book.  We worked on connections this week, as well as cause and effect during our morning reading time.

Writing-  Writing time was a busy time this week.  We have been working on kinds of sentences: sentences that are statements, sentences that are questions, and sentences that are exclamatory sentences.  We have also been working on what nouns are and the difference between common nouns and proper nouns.  We finished this week in writing with some seasonal fun...our class wrote about their favorite Halloween things.

during math time.

Math-  We are nearly finished with unit two in our Everyday Math.  This last week we worked on What's My Rule function tables, number machine in-out function tables, and some subtraction problems.  We also worked on number collection boxes, and we continue to practice working with time and money.

I spy Ipads....Yes it's true...We worked with Ipads this past Friday October 5th.  We were able to rotate all of our students in, and they were awesome!  They did a great job of working carefully and following directions.  There will be much more Ipad fun and excitement in the near future.

It's Fall Already...?

NEWS FOR THE WEEK IN 2C  SEPTEMBER 24-28

Hello 2C families!  These first few weeks of school have flown by, and we are starting to get into our daily and weekly routines.  I hope that you are able to subscribe to our 2C class blog, and that it will help us all to stay connected throughout the year.

Reading:
We are off and running with our new Jouneys reading series.  We have just started our third unit and we enjoyed reading about Henry and Mudge this past week.  We also have been working hard on our word sorts and our weekly Target Skills.

Writing:
We are easing into our Being a Writer series...Last week, we wrote about our favorite season, and we welcomed the fall season with a leaf writing activity directed by our own Miss Ciway.

Math
Math is moving right along, as we move through our second unit.  This unit involves counting on a number grid, number values - greater than, less than and equal to,  and number stories.  Thank you for reviewing these important concepts with your student!

Social Studies
We have just finished chapter two, and we have enjoyed learning about urban, suburban, and urban communities.  We will begin chapter three next week.
