We use the Being a Writer program for our writing in second grade. Being a Writer focuses on students sharing and writing about their experiences. This program offers a variety of books that are shared with the class before they are asked to write. Being a Writer also emphasizes the class coming together as a community of writers. Students work together as partners to talk about ideas for and about writing, and come together as a whole group to share their thoughts about writing and examples of what they have written.
We will use our Journeys reading series for vocabulary development and word work. We will also have an opportunities to participate in seasonal writing activities (Halloween, Thanksgiving..etc.) We will also write about our weekends in our Weekend News books.
